Schuman Hoque is a British Bangladeshi writer-director whose character-driven genre stories explore identity, loyalty, survival, and the cost of choosing who you are when the stakes are real.

Entering the industry outside traditional access structures, finding a way in without a safety net, shaped both his voice and the stories he is compelled to tell.

His short films have been jury-nominated at SXSW. His comedy pilot The New Bromantics won Best Independent UK Pilot at the New York TV Festival, leading to his TV pilot Slashies being optioned by Fox TV. His debut feature Beyond Existence received three nominations at the Boston Sci-Fi Film Festival and secured international distribution. His second feature The Retreat, produced by Happy Hour Productions, has been acquired for North American distribution.

Schuman is currently working on his next feature, Cornerman, a queer-led sports drama about a closeted Bristol boxer blackmailed by a crime fixer with damning footage, forced to choose between sabotaging his title shot or risking a public outing that could wreck his career and destroy the people he loves. A BAFTA and Emmy award-winning casting director is on board and actively helping to package the film.

His debut novel Moon Hunt, an Isabel Ramos thriller, is available now.

Alongside his film and fiction work, Schuman has over 20 years of experience as a Senior Creative Producer and Director in branded content and commercials, with clients including Jack Morton Worldwide, CNBC Catalyst/NBC Universal, ITN Productions, and the Financial Times. His commercial work has been recognised with industry awards and has featured renowned talent including Idris Elba, Elton John, and Steve Wozniak.
